Do you take any extra precautions for commuting in the fog/mist?

Get some real lights. Sorry, but cateyes and superflashes are NOT REAL LIGHTS. They're OK, but they just don't compare to more modern proper lights.

Here's Gaz's video:

my cat eye is the older version of this http://www.evanscycles.com/products/cateye/el520-power-opticube-front-light-ec007947 (the EL510) and was great for pootling along the cycle track at rolling 13-14 mph in the dark. the light doesnt hold up well to 30 MPH down country lanes but ive seen online about upgrading the LED to a higher rated one. i use highly rated rechargables as well which helps. i do have another front light, my "be seen" aldi jobbie that i stick on flash. cant afford to upgrade to "real" lights just yet with mini kiwi II brewing.

use my all my lights on a higher setting take it easy avoid manholes etc and general common sense! ( normally in twilight this time of year i only use 1/2 rear and front lights unless it chucking it down with rain!)

ps i have 2x leyzene superdrive and a exposure flash on the front and 2 x cateye rapid 3 ( very good on flash normalling and the rapid mode is BRILLIANT bright for bad weather and a exposure flare normally on the pulse mode

Lights and reflectives. I live in NE England and the North Sea Haar can blow in onto my local rides at a moment's notice so I always have lights fitted on my rides. I use a bright rear light on blink plus a couple of more lights winking away up front as soon as it starts to blow in.

First time commuting in fog this morning and just made sure I set my Moon Shield to it's highest (overdrive) setting. I usually run it on flashing, so it's kicking out an extra 20 lumens by being in overdrive. Also ensuring I wear reflective clothing and take it a bit easier on the roads given the wet conditions.

Here for rides.
three rear lamps three front. (though the bike spat one of the rear ones off y'day). so that is the same as a normal commute. no eye protection in fog as the mist just clouds em, so speed is slower else eyes water badly. otherwise dress as per normal commute tbh.

ime the fallen leaves on wet country lanes/roads are more of a hazard than the fog/mist and loads of leaves will come off the trees later in the week when the wind picks up and backs around to the north.

Mikey already posted a video of my set up.

I run the front dinotte on steady, hope vision 1 on flash and an exposure joystick on my helmet on steady. The dinotte 400R is on the burst flash, and if it's thick I'll run the fibre flares as well.

I set my Exposure to flash in fog, mounted on helmet. I think this is more effective to alert oncoming vehicles to my presence and not blind them.
After breaking my Cateye I'm going to get a set of Lezyne's (Micros) for the handlebars and rear seat post.

Oh, hang on just one...I don't wear my riding glasses in the fog, its a waste of time as they just cloud up with mist droplets.

Seconded - ended up removing mine this morning as I could barely see a thing, especially when I passed beneath a streetlight which reflected in all the misty droplets and effectively blinded me for a second.

What was more frightening was that the roads were unusually busy this morning at 6am, with drivers going faster than the conditions called for. Why does no-one drive according to the conditions any more? Have we become so immune to danger because we think the cars are far safer and offer more protection in an accident?

Reminds me of that US comic (beardy one) who observed that " Here in the UK you Brits drive faster in the rain.. WTF? " Very funny but quite true.

Was glad my Magicshine clone was back up and running again today (with my homemade battery pack). That plus the Ay-Ups up-front with a Smart Lunar, Niterider Cherrybomb & Cateye LD1100 at the rear made sure I stood out (along with the reflective & HiViz waistcoat and Creative Reflectives rucksack cover)!!
