This is something I've noticed, cyclists wear helmets to protect their compensation payouts rather than their bonces.
 
Yes, and it's the same in the Netherlands apparently.

What is it with Dutch bikes? They all seem ridiculous upright with massive frames and really long wheelbases - even the ones with 'normal' shape frames.

I'd imagine the Dutch did not have a word for hill until many of them emigrated to South Africa and it became necessary to explain to those at home the concept of of one piece of land being higher than another.

Yes when racing, or training on the tri bike (so as to fix it in my head not to touch the bike without a lid and thus avoid embarassing DQs in T1) and on my very, very occasional forays offroad. Otherwise, no.
