Do young gurls drink too?

Was nearly home last night, running along the pavement, I saw these two figures just up ahead of me staggering along a narrow part of the pavement by the shops and next to parked cars. Realising that they were very probably two young very drunk gurls, as heaps of laughing and shrieking, one of them suddenly collapses like a sac of spuds. I switched on my bike light illuminating the scene to see a pretty brunette, dressed down young gurl, prob about 17-18 years old, sprawled on the pavement at my feet? "Are you ok?" I say to her. Her very drunk and equally pretty friend swaying by my elbow shouts in my ear "She ain't no pisser, it's 'er big shoes!" Her friend was fumbling below with one of her high heels trying to get up. I offered to help her up "You really do want to take better care of yourselves gurls." The friend still just about standing and swaying by my right arm says "Ain't you sweet, bless you!" Just in case she threw up and told me she loved me I made a quick exit.

What is it with young gurls out on the town on a friday night who feel the need to drink too much and make a show of themselves? They also potentially put their safety at risk as well as their long term health if they do it on a regular basis. Do they drink more and more frequently than the boys?

Discuss.

Shouldn't you use girls instead of gurls?

Earlier in the year I rode through West london late on a saturday evening and it certainly seemed to be the ladies that were the worst for wear but not all of them were young  maybe they were just more obvious than the men. Cardiff and Swansea also seem to follow this trend. Someone i work with has 2 daughters in their late twenties who she really worries about in this respect. Its a good job she doesn t use a computer she d be mortified at their facebook pages

Couple of years ago out on an MTB club night ride we came a cross about five girls probably aged around 14, in a wood, absolutely smashed and swigging from a large bottle of cider. They were loud, rude and bordering on aggressive. Since the club contains a wide variety of ages they were also quite "forward" with a couple of the younger guys. As we all rode off shaking our heads in sorrow and amazement somebody mentioned that if in those circumstances a young naive lad got over-excited and tried his luck, he would automatically be assumed to be 100% at fault and the girl would be the victim.

This is nothing new.

I was drinking when I was 12/13 and that was way back when, raiding my best friends parents drinks cabinet and when they cottoned on to that, MD 20/20 round the back of the co-op and white lightening on the golf course!

I think it's because I was a dumbass who thought it an act of rebellion and also because where I lived there was bugger all else to do.

Mods, can we move this to Speak You're Branes please?

Why, because it points out that women can be as stupid as men?

As MissTillyFlop says, it's probably not entirely new, although I was far to boring to do anything like it myself at that age. I suspect one thing is that we don't expect it so much as a society, and hence it's more surprising when we see it, and also that women perhaps become more shrill and noticable when they are hammered, than men?

Although, living in the middle of the city (albeit a rather genteel city mostly), if there's any noise late at night it tends to sound like groups of lads chanting. Maybe it's only the lads who make enough noise to carry down my little street, which off the beaten track.

No - this is something I can demonstrate effortlessly ;)

You will note that there isn't actually a section called Speak You're Branes, so I'm not actually demanding any kind of action from mods - I'm merely passing comment on the pisspoor quality, Daily-Mail moral-outrage tone, and obvious sexism of the thread. Can you imagine for a moment anyone starting a thread along the lines of "Saw some young men last night - they were pissed and acting a bit stupid"?

Not to mention that I had the same response as Noodley to Globalti's nauseating euphemism.

You have really excelled yourself here, Crankers.
Yes, young women can get pissed and act a bit silly. I'd sooner meet them than you any day.
And as for Globalti, well words fail me.
I'm feckin' glad I don't live on your planet.
Do you really think that someone who's sexually assaulted while they're drunk is anything other than the victim?

Now go on. Report me to the Mods because I've had a go at you.

Can we add more questions for the panel? Is it really true that women can fart?

Lukesmum can and snores and swears like the best of troopers, probably what attracted me in the first place

Am I alone in saying 'well done' to Crankarm for at least enquiring about the girls wellbeing?
And I'm sure Globalti is capable of defending himeslf, but if you read his post he wasn't the one who made the remark that others are offended by and taking out of context. Read the whole sentence, not just one phrase.
