Something has been troubling me. Whenever I go to a newspaper website, eg. The Independent, to have a look at the news, they take an absolute age to load. Why is this? Is it because the page is constantly being updated?

Any ideas? Thank-you.

No it's probably because of all the tracking cookies it's loading up your computer with

Have you tried different browsers ? I found for example that the flickr site is much slower on my IExplorer version than on Chrome.
Is it a cost for the first loading but not subsequent ones ?
Have you tried changing your user name to fastmotion ?

It could of course also be that the server is under high load at the times you're looking at their site.

I just went back to The Independent site and it's still agonisingly slow. It's the same with The Guardian and other papers, and it doesn't seem to make much difference with the time of day.

It's most likely that its just server overload, or one of their tracking cookies is lagging page load like doubleclick.

Edit. Just loaded the independent site in just under 3 seconds here.

It loaded straight up for me too.

Try temporarily switching off your security and then reload it

I'm thrashing about trying to turn off Norton 360.....without much success.....

There's your problem... Hateful load of rubbish it is. It's like throwing a tin of epoxy resin into a nicely oiled machine

Loaded relatively quickly for me, the ads took a couple of extra seconds and were bike adverts, so more than likely tracked to me. If using windows you could try using Start Menu>Accessories>System Tools>Internet Explorer (No Addons) incase some browser bolt-ons are slowing things down in general.

Your computer will function better with a virus than Norton installed and theyre about equally resistant to removal :P
