I've never written a blog but have tried reading a few, most of the ones I've tried to read are from people that I know and so have some interest but anything else generally leaves me cold.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry FM, your post bored me... I didn't make it to the end. I guess I just wasn't sufficiently interested in what your blogs were about to read on. I guess that proves your point though really, doesn't it... I think.

I'm not sure the writers of many of the blogs I have read (and found dull) consider their target audience as such. They just seem to assume an audience. But, yes, clearly some will find it interesting and some won't.

The worst are the corporate manager ones that try to "connect" to the workforce. You just know they were written by the overworked PA and not the manager.

I don't know (genuinely as it happens!); I tend not to read internet forum etiquette blogs or places where such such things might.... sorry, what was I saying? I've lost interest myself... limited attention span you see! You see, I tend to loose concentration for things that don't interest me

In truth, I find most blogs simply dull. The would-be writer blogs, I find more torturous to read but mercifully there are fewer of them.

Can I just own up to reading and enjoying a few blogs? And the reason I like them is for the style of writing and the humour, both of those above the actual subject matter. Some people could write a phone book and make it a good read. I envy such people.

Not boring per se but on forums i find the behaviour of certain types of bloggers to be a bit irritating. I dont mean in terms of someone having a blog link on their signature (that is more than fair enough) i mean more the type who start threads or reply to a thread with a link to their blog post on the subject rather than contributing their thoughts or content to the forum. That strategy might give them a few extra visits on their google analytics account but it is at the expense of forum discussion IMO


I've started a couple of blogs over the years but - at the start i would update every day, then a week would go by, then a month then after a while didnt bother updating. One of them is still online and the last update was November....2000!

Having a blog that my family migh tread to find out how things are going in the rich p world would open me up to ridicule I would justly deserve. Self-important, self-indulgent egotism in my opinion.

Send an email with some pics every now and again if you want, at least that way it can be personal to the receiver. I find group letters/blogs impersonal verging on the rude.

and you are of course assuming that none of your family knows it exists

And given how easily searchable your blog is you either have a tiny family that consists of your elderly aunt and her dog...........or they're all computer illiterate
