In the interim, have you considered a Shepherd's Whistle for recall?
There's one for under £3 on Amazon.
It took me a couple of days to make a decent noise, but it's about the only thing that gets my dog to come running.

Garmin do combined two way radios with GPS that share location via that link. You can then see where the dog is as well as call over the radio as well as shout anyway. One radio could be attached to the dog when let out in the woods.

So you call the dog over the radio and how does it know where to go? Surely it just stands still as the call comes from where it is?
