...Noel Edmonds' plan to break the speed record on water, with a boat which would rise up out of the water on a single blade? He was in partnership with some engineer bloke.

I clearly remember the press trumpeting about it many years ago. Then it all went quiet, until a tiny story appeared about the two of them falling out, or the engineer trying to diddle poor Mr Blobby's daddy.

It's just sprung to my mind after getting into Bonj's revolutionary prisons idea.

Was your dad an engineer Bonj?

Oh, yes, that rings a vague bell. Would have thought it might work - a sort of hydrofoil thing? So probably not related to bonji...

Monofoilers have made huge strides in the last few years. They have gone from freakish one-offs for geeks, into production with several competing firms offering models.

The sailing ones have really solved the stablitiy and control problems in dinghies, but as yet it hasn't been scaled up to lager sizes or to power boats (afaik).

Have a look at the pictures on

Think it hit a snag, when for aerodynamic reasons, Noel would have had to shave off his beard

Sounds like one of those strange shows from the 80s like Superstars, like when you had Kevin Keegan falling off that bike and making a tit of himself ?
