Does being a commuting cyclist make you a tight git?

I've been cycling to and from work for around 3 years now, and at the moment my bike is out of order. So instead its a 20 min walk and 25 min bus ride to and from work each day. I don't mind it, but its the £3.80 return fare i'd rather not have to fork out. Am i just being tight? It could be cos i love my cycling, mind :P

I'm in the same boat and I also hate paying the extra money out. I could be spending it on my bike after all ^_^

One of the main reasons I commute to work is to save a bit of money (approx £60 a week on fuel). Some call it tight, some call it sensible. I dont care; it works nicely for me.

I'm a tight get too!

I hate paying bus fare - or taxi fare for that matter! I'm currently filling in the Sustrans Big Cycle and Walk challenge, just for the joy of it totting up how much money I'm saving by cycling!

Same here. I'd rather cycle. I spend way too much on the bikes, and having 4 they all have to be working in tip top condition. Hate anything that doesn't work right. I put off having the anti roll bar links replaced on the car though, worked out at only £90, but that was £90 I could spend on bike bits.

You can never have enough bike bits.

Never forget: to get rich you have to be tightfisted:smile:

I just hate getting the train. It is an unceasingly unpleasant experience to catch the train from SE London to Central London which I need to do to get to work

Taking the bike isn't free. Things wear out and need to be replaced - tyres, chains, gears, brakes, rims, bottom brackets, lights etc - and you need cycling clothing that needs to be replaced at regular intervals as it wears out. The CTC reckoned on about 12p per mile all up which equates to 32 miles for your £3.80. So its cheaper but not free to cycle.

I used to pocket my school bus fare and walk home from school. It was only 2p a trip back in 1971 but I had a silver coin(10p) by friday. The only time I use public transport is when I have a trip to Leeds town centre as the bus which travels between Halifax and Leeds passes near to me which is handy. Nothing wronge with being tight with money, its hard to earn and save and very easily spent!!

12p per mile? Blimey. I tried working out what my commuter costs to run and I had it closer to 2p per mile.
