Cycling along a cycle path, come to a Toucan Crossing, wait for the "cycle" to turn green, move off, but turn onto the road and continue.
Have I just jumped the red light, or as I joined the road after the stop line am OK ?

This is, IMO, perfectly acceptable.

I think so, too. You used the toucan signal correctly, and you haven't crossed the stop line against a red signal.

There is a toucan crossing (I think its a roucan - but definitely a lane on pavement to lights - Zetland Rd) near me where I assume that is what you are meant to do - small cycle lane across the pavement to the toucan crossing but no lane on the other side of the road so you have to join the road.

There's a toucan under the Forth Rail Bridge it only takes you to the P&R bus stop; I tend to use it like the OP sometimes to cross the road and get a head start on traffic, that way I can get through the pinch point down the road before a car comes.
