Oh god yeah... I've seena new type now that looks like a wire that you cant see. Dog goes running around and you realise last second the dog is attached to a lead ;)

Is this kind of thing not already covered by local byelaws. The problem, I thought, was not the law but it's enforcement. It's exactly the same with poop scooping. Big fines and stuff but you still find it everywhere. It's also another one of those laws which is going to be ignored by those who don't give a fig, whilst those of us who already act responsibly end up feeling a bit minoritised and slightly resentful. Sorry, waste of time folks.

Am I reading this correctly? She wants to stop people letting dogs off the leash in any public place? That's a bit mean, isn't it? Dogs need to run around. I'm with you on the extending lead menace, but if we are not going to allow dogs to do normal dog stuff, we probably shouldn't be keeping them at all.

This just sounds like causing friction between cyclists, dogs and more importantly dog walkers. We've already done this death in the 80s with Dog Licenses and it's not like going round quoting section 27 of the RTA 1988 or local bylaws where applicable is going to make a blind bit of difference.

It's quite possible for cyclists and dog walkers to coexist. When going along country lanes and shared use paths I will keep to appropriate speeds and keep and eye out and likewise they can let a dog out as much as they like as long as they can control the dog and similarly keep an eye out. The ones that can't won't listen anyway.

Again, no one would bother. I've just passed a mutt out wandering about on its own right next to the main road. People don't give a s***.

Couldn't there just be a petition to ban inconsiderate people from owning dogs?

I used to have a long extending lead for my dog. It was short on the path, a bit longer in the park, longer still in the woods and off completely when it was time to play. It was also wound back in whenever people appeared as some people don't seem to like dogs much.

You're obviously more considerate than some people around here who are often at one side of the path and the dog at the other side 20 feet in front with a thin black lead which can be difficult to see in the dusk linking them together.

The trouble is you can't legislate for 'stupid'
