I have never had a dog and know nothing about them.
Situation is, health problems (long covid) robbed me of ability to ride or walk unaided. I am working hard to get walking again and everyday, weather permitting, I walk through the park.
When I meet people with dogs, if convenient, I ask about thier pets. I'm staggered by the variety. Some are beautiful while some make me ask why??
Eg.
Yesterday I met a guy with 2 PugBulls, a cross between a Pug and a bulldog.
Today I met a guy with 2 Salukis...I've never heard of them but they were good looking dogs.
I regularly meet a couple that have a Rottweiler which is off the lead. Nice looking but makes me very nervous.
My health and forced walks have been a doggy education.

When you think of the variety of dogs you see, it's incredible that they are all part of the same species (i.e. members are able to interbreed) Canis lupus. So not only can you get a cross between any domestic dog breeds (I once saw a chihuahua x rottweiler - it was very cute), but they can interbreed with wolves and dingoes.

There are lots of different breeds when you start paying attention. Feels like every walk there’s something new or a mix you can’t even begin to guess. I'll stick with my old lab.

Working Cockers, I assume?

Probably from a working strain but the vast majority are just pets with a few actually using them to go shooting.

Yes that's what I was meaning - they've become very popular (read fashionable) down in Southshire over the last decade too. Not always the wisest choice, given the levels of exercise & stimulation they need.
