Since it was a lovely evening I popped for little ride. I thought it was a little strange that my shifter refused to pull the dérailleur into the large cog; oh well the cable must be loose, it doesn't really matter it stops me going into the big/bog combo any how. After about 6 miles though, about 3/4 of the way up hill my shifters were suddenly free shifting
surprise, surprise, not the cable had snapped, the cable was still tight however
. At least it was mostly downhill to get home so it didn't matter that I was stuck in the highest gear (I was internally cursing the pedestrians however they kept on pressing their pelicans
and why do folk give way at roundabouts, they don't do that for me
).
My stupidity doesn't end here though
; I rushed to a lbs and got a new cable , removed the old cable (sure enough it was snapped at the head) fitted the new cable and was about to cut it to length when I thought I'd better try it first. Oh sugar (or words to that effect) the sti's are not pulling the cable, don't tell me the sti's are bust too. After 10 mins (or more) of disconnecting the dérailleur, taking the cable out of its outers (to remove the possibility of cable snag) and repeatedly shifting and watching the internal sti cogs (which were all fine); I thought I'd better take the whole cable out and look closer at the sti. Doh
when I'd fitted it I must of let the cable go loose and it had popped out of it housing, no wonder the sti's were working but the cable wasn't pulling

After indexing I decided I should try it out with a quick ride to the foot of Knockhill and it felt better than it ever had
