I grew up listening to her, as she was one of my Dad's favourites. Always a prominent musical fixture in our house. I won't say I listen to her on purpose these days, but if a song comes up I always enjoy it. She was the epitome of self-made star, seemed very down to earth and was always grateful of her fan base. Lots of artists with only 10% of her popularity are swanning around in fox fur and bling, showing off, where she never did.
I also loved the way she never apologised for who she was. "People ask me how I manage to keep looking so young, and I say good lighting, good Doctors and good makeup".
