I've just found three events at Donington Park http://www.donington-park.co.uk/
I'm not sure there would be anything I'd rather do of an evening ! Ride around the race circuit for 2 1/2 hours, I'll be having some of that !

"Please note you will need to be wearing the same protective cycling gear as you would on any public highway. This includes a hemlet "

Eh?

Unbelievably cheap and so much fun.

Can't wait for the next one, July 18th, I've booked fair weather for it too so it had better turn up !
I did the MacRide at Silverstone. It wasn't cheap because a lot of cash was going to the charity, but that was a lot of fun too.

Does anyone know if this event is suitable for beginners on a mountain bike? i.e slow (ish)

It is suitable for anyone AceDavesGirl. There were a whole mix of people there last time and I expect the same on Thursday. Yes granted there were plenty of us roadies there but I saw many families, some with kids who looked as young as 2 or 3, plenty on mountain bikes, I even saw a lady who I guess would of been around 60 with a huge grin on her face whilst cycling down the Dunlop straight on her shopper !
Really looking forward to it again, hopefully the wet and windy weather won't be making another appearance....... If you go have a good time.

Brilliant! thanks for the response- if the weather stays sunny we will definitely give it a go. What a great way to spend an evening.

I did some laps of the Top Gear circuit a couple of weeks ago. It was less fun than I was expecting, because:

1) It was ridiculously hot and there was no shelter at all
2) After a couple of laps it got a bit boring
3) There were no downhill sections to speak of, which meant relentless pedalling. Combined with a stiff headwind for a long straight, I found it much tougher than normal road riding.

So bear those things in mind.
