I did some laps of the Top Gear circuit a couple of weeks ago. It was less fun than I was expecting, because:

1) It was ridiculously hot and there was no shelter at all
2) After a couple of laps it got a bit boring
3) There were no downhill sections to speak of, which meant relentless pedalling. Combined with a stiff headwind for a long straight, I found it much tougher than normal road riding.

So bear those things in mind.

Yes, but,
1) It was ridiculously hot and there was no shelter at all - keep pedalling you get a breeze.
2) After a couple of laps it was far from boring - just wanted to go again, and again, and again, and again.....
3) There are downhill sections which also means relentless pedalling - opportunity to knock a couple of seconds off your PB. There was also a headwind going down the Craner Curves, head down, on the drops, go for it.

I say the above in a light hearted tone. I may be a little enthusiastic about Donington, spent most of my boyhood weekends there with my Dad watching anything and everything race, so to ride the circuit was kind of fulfilling a boyhood dream. Now having done 2 sessions there I look forward to the third.
If you are into Strava, it is a great chance for competition, (http://app.strava.com/activities/68302305#1316958720) no junctions, no pot holes, no lights, no vehicles, no danger, no excuses........

Thanks for the ping mate, it sounds good, i'll definately try to make it there on Sept 9th weather permitting. Must remember to buy myself a helmet first.

I've ridden at Donington park a few times on the motorbike << Avatar was taken on the Melbourne hairpin about 10 years ago. The circuit is anything but flat, and you really feel the climbs and descents on the motorbikes (esp to the old hairpin)

My favourite circuit, and I'd imagine great fun to cycle on

Silly question,
Will the track be lit or will lights be required? By September 8th it will be getting darker earlier?

I'm not expecting the track to be lit, never seen lights around it to be honest. Sunset should be around 19:40 (ish) so if it's a sunny evening should be ok without lights, although I'll have mine on from commuting.
Really enjoyed the last two sessions I've been on, looking forward to this one too.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Me at Melbourne Hairpin last week
