If it was a "bit of both" then the driver wouldn't have been found guilty of driving without due care. To be guilty of a criminal offence, the burden of proof has to be beyond reasonable doubt. If it was 50:50 the driver wouldn't have been convicted.
I said it was a bit of both as the cyclist had already shown himself to be someone who wasn't making good decisions on the road, I can't tell what he did in terms of looking and signalling, though I think he could have had a better position as he approached that area. I didn't say it was equal blame in any way just that in my opinion he also makes mistakes. I'm assuming from that short clip that his cycling isn't entirely incident free normally. I also said the driver should have anticipated the cyclists manoeuvre.

Granted the cyclist poor habits but the temerity of the couple was quite outstanding.

On the another note, did notice that thumping of vehicles by cyclist appear to increase.

Totally agree with comments regarding the cyclist. To put it politely he takes unnecessary risks.

On the incident itself I don't see anything he did wrong.... somebody said it was questionable...... he was in front of the car and travelling in the same direction, he had right of way in MHO.

I wonder why he didn't take primary position, I think I would for such a short stretch of road.

I'd have been hitting the car there myself, as I'd have been freaking out. I wouldn't want to fall into railings or be squashed!

I wouldn't want to fall or be squashed either hence why I would be concentrating on staying upright not reaching across and losing my balance to hit the car.

I've seen this cyclist in action before and he is an absolute liability. However, on this occasion, there is no doubt that the motorist was at fault.

The motorist was absolutely at fault, but if the rider didn't fancy becoming a victim there's much he could have done to prevented this incident. The guy thinks fast riding is the same as fast risk taking,

True. Plus I don't understand this thing of hitting cars. If it's genuinely to alert a driver to your presence (yeah right), then a shout works just as well and allows you to stay in control of your bike.

I saw in the news this morning that a driver has been hospitalised following a road rage incident in which he was attacked with an axe. Good reason not to slap cars

Is that the road where a cyclist died recently?
@gaz
that is Moorgate , going north towards City road from Bank the left turn incident is at London Wall .

There are signs that say DO NOT OVERTAKE CYCLISTS and why the hell was he not in Primary through there. which does NOT excuse the driver.

although based on the undertake at London Wall , he don't know much about safe cycle positioning.

With narrow lanes at road works, drivers often try to beat cyclists to the start of the pinch point in order not to get "delayed". This looks like a classic example of selfish twuntery by the Merc driver.

I'm glad the driver had to attend a course as the cyclist could have been seriously injured.
