This is one reason I've changed my route going out of Cambridge, it's now much shorter out but in the wrong direction so I go further. I'm getting fead up of people getting in front of me at the ASL forcing me to either sprint off the line to get ahead so I'm not stuck at low speeds or try & over take with cars keeping tight to each other.

I'm with you Cab...and i do try to scalp other riders ;)
But to scalp someone, then not have the legs to keep ahead is a bit stupid / annoying / distracting to the person they just passed.

Its a sign of inexperience at best, stupidity at worst. If the guy ahead of you ain't going appreciably more slowly than you are, don't overtake him. Isn't complicated, but its beyond some people.

I had experience about a month ago where I was cycling at my normal pace and went past this guy who took offence. I stopped at the next red light and he just sailed through it without looking at the traffic crossing his path. It's got to be the worst case of cycling I have seen to date.

In the end I passed him again as he was puffing and panting halfway up the road I was cycling along. ;)

This, incidentally, also goes for passing a truck at traffic lights. Especially when that truck has just patiently waited behind your bike for five minutes for a safe place to pass.
I'm not suggesting anyone on here would be so unaware, but I've had cyclists do this to me over and over at subsequent sets of lights. They must know I'm going to be faster than them as soon as I get going, so why continually overtake me when I'm stopped?

I could brag about a daily 'score', but it doesn't really interest me. If I wanted to race I'd go join a cycling club and race; it irritates me when someone keeps doing what this guy did.

Happens to me.Im not that fast but I don't get beaten by everyone (yet).

My daily commute is characterised by:

1. Red light, I come to a stop, usually in a decent primary position
2. RLJer sails through on the inside against red
3. I put down the power from the lights and overtake said RLJer
4. Repeat from (1) until I reach destination.

Tiresome (I have 50+ traffic lights on the commute) but doesn't bother me too much unless the light goes green as the RLJr tries to cut across me, although idiots on scooters are usually more of a menace doing this. Commuting home I can add my waiting in primary behind bus/taxi/lorry with RLJer sailing up the inside to the mix too.

In doing this busy commute for 6 months I have been trying not to let this stuff wind me up. Difficult sometimes.

I sympathise with the OP.

I'm not the fastest commuter on my stretch and if someone who's quicker is at the lights when I pull up I stay clear of them so they can head off. It really irritates me when the same person I've passed several times will come up close at the lights and get in my way. Grrrrrr

To get to the stop box at the front? Sometimes road design seems to be all about antagonising truck drivers.

Had another one this morning; wobbling forward through the red lights doing a pathetic attempt at a track stand, twice in a row, and turning straight across my path in front of me and the white line each time. On the second occasion I told him 'white line, red light, that means you too', and the abuse in return continued for quite some time. Moron.
