The "Idaho Stop":lme4me (signed in using yahoo)
other than prudential reasons, why should bicycles follow road rules made exclusively for cars?
why is DC afraid of the idaho stop? why aren't there more traffic circleslike in europe? why aren't there more bike-only streets and more express buses (like those in other countries)?
there is no meaningful enforcement of the car road rules for speeding, talking on the cell phone, double parking, using the bike lanes for delivery, or for tailgating. there is a three foot passing law in DC for cars as they pass cyclists -- but not a single ticket has ever been written. the NPS own studies who speeding rampant...and yet the NPS doesn't issue citations in areas the have deemed "bike friendly." why isn't there any law enforcement of the car laws?
the transportation bigotry in this culture is spectacular. the bicycle hating is weird, misplaced and toxic. the spending on a failed system to get people around (the private car) requires massive economic subsidy. the sheer noise and ugliness of the car culture is everywhere: the tour buses clog the mall; we have seven-laners (ie connecticut ave, etc) cutting through town for suburbanites who don't live in DC -- and still they sit jammed in traffic; georgetown has a ten-foot sidewalk: and six lanes on M street jammed with cars not moving; the recent re-do of sherman, adams morgan; u-street; union station/clumbus circle -- ALL privilege the car-- again!
THIS IS INSANITY!
this jim rosenfeld "report" is typical, idiotic and anti-bike. gee. what else is new?
bicyclists didn't create this stupidity. and theyre not contributing to it either.
That's clearly an alleycat race, not a regular commuting scenario.
