A lesson well learnt ( you would have thought I would have learnt this before at my age 64) I cycle twice a day with my dog mostly off road yesterday I came off the bike big-time. I was cycling through an underpass holding the extending lead with my hand on the handle bars I normally hear the lead extending ,but this time I didn’t and the dog stopped to eat a bit sandwich that someone had discarded .the handle bars went at right angles and I was off scrapping myself down the jagged concrete wall any finally landing in a heap on the floor .I have quite a few grazes but most of all my pride was hurt .
This was the first time I have not worn gloves this year and because of the very good weather I was tempted not to wear my helmet but I did.
1. Sell the dog ( only joking )
2. Always wear a helmet
3. Always wear gloves
4. Dont’t take your eye off the ball

I don't envy you cleaning your dog - mines bad enough and he's no where near that messy!

Gotta say though, I can never understand anyone daring to cycle with a dog lead in your hands - I wouldn't dare try it forbear or something similar to what you have just experienced.

First time the dog has anything to to do with it in a year of taking her out and as for her being dirty she gets hosed down when I clean the bike .
I must say she is very good on and off the lead when we are out not 100% but no dog is .
This is after I washed the bike and her

I do but she's off the lead. You can get springs that attach to the rear pannier rack that you attach the lead to I think. Don't know if there any good.

I'm not keen on people cycling with their dogs on a lead. Same as with the ones that ride along on their little electic wheelchairs with a dog attached. What happens if the poor dog encounters some kind of problem? Or gets caught up in something?

I know people will disagree and say this never happens to them but I do feel it shouldn't be done.

Nope...but she looks well worth the occasional graze. I preferred the first shot it had a look of "what...me?" about it

I only cycle with my dogs when out on the MTB through the local fields and woods, Off Lead! To get there I walk with the dog leads in one hand, and the bike in the other. Riding with a dog attached to a lead is asking for trouble if you ask me; regardless of how well behaved/trained you think they are.
However, heres to a quick heal for you. And lesson learned!

I once saw a guy pulled off his bike & was left face down into the middle of the road by a dog that went for some wildlife. Scary thing, that road is a NSL with cars often doing 50-60mph!

Sorry to hear of your mishap and glad you and your dog are ok. But I have to say cycling with a dog on a lead is a bit silly. Its one of those things I hate to see cyclists doing.

I've never quite decided on whether it is Fenton or Benton that is being shouted.

On the bike/dog thing, I would never trust a dog in the countryside not to do something unbelievably stupid. I took our Labrador out when I went shooting and the ruddy thing kept darting in front of my quad then stopping and looking at me with a soppy, Labrador, butter-wouldn't-melt smile as I did everything I could to scrub off speed and steer away from him.
