You try to help and all you get is either ridiculed or ignored, well I hope they go rusty and fall off. And your door handles.

Ah touche or should I say touchy

Actually followed your link and have already had a mooch on that site...problem is knowing what I'm mooching at I don't just want to go by price.

Colour is the other thing, we don't want shiny chrome so it's certainly going to be a satin finish but we quite like the sort of oil on water dark grey to black look. What I don't know is how that finish is achieved...if it's something that will peel, flake or chip then I'm not interested.

My google abilities seem to be letting me down on this one

Could go for pewter ones... if not you'll need to look at cast aluminium with a dark anodised satin finish... it could scratch but won't flake or fade or chip.

We went through the same process as you and ended up choosing a very simple lever type handle in brushed stainless steel from Focus DIY. We had something like 14 doors to re-do (I have cut, hung and varnished 12 of them so far) and happily I had the foresight to buy all the door furniture from Focus DIY and put them in a safe place, otherwise we'd be in the poop now 'cos Focus DIY doesn't exist any more!

Well I'm still confused, I quite like the look of this one and am thinking of ordering just one to have a look in the flesh:-

but I can't work out what it's made of, I've been to the Carlisle Brass website and still don't know. It looks like the same lever comes in polished chrome, satin chrome and black nickel. But what does that actually mean and what's the underlying material?

I don't know but probably some kind of die-cast alloy?

I don't think I would order something like this online; I want to see the thing in the flesh and actually hold it in my hand to see how it feels before committing myself to years using it. What about good local door specialists? They usually have a selection of levers for you to try and will do you a good price for a large order. Alternatively there's places like B&Q but they are expensive. There are specialist architectural ironmongers but they tend to be in places like London.
