Door to door sales - youngsters staying out of prison

They come to our street a few times a year. We very politely tell that we don't need any of their wares. The usually get abusive at that point.

It has been some time since someone stopped by me in an unmarked white van, as used by all reputable companies, and informed me that due to an error at the warehouse, they had too many mattresses / duvets / speakers / televisions on the van, and due to a very complicated reason badly explained, it was best if they used company time to hawk the items to passing pedestrians at a reduced price rather than simply returning them to the warehouse.

Being a White Van Man seems to attract them. I've been offered Italian suits, walking boots, watches, studio monitor loudspeakers for the BBC,...you name it. All the pitches were made through wound down windows from Transits in the adjacent lane at red lights. There's a whole other world out there.
