I just say well done to them. I had a woman do the same, she came past me, then stopped outside the post office. She was obviously in a rush and just opened the door. I was far enough away it didnt get me, but still close to the door. I said well done to her and she shoot herself

I think it should be made compulsary to do a week of cycling as part of the driving test-i know i have become a lot more aware of cyclists when im driving since becoming one myself.

+1. I'm sure I'm just generally more patient driving since returning to cycling. More patient than when I'm on the bike, as sitting in the metal box I can accept that there is nothing I can do to make the traffic queues go faster. On the bike the time between two points is mostly down to how fast I can peddle.
Mrs.P also seems to be more patient and aware too now. My influence is rubbing off.

Yes but not intentionally.

It was some years ago in Hove - a portly gentleman (I think that's roughly the meaning of what I called him) opened the door of his brand new BMW and simultaneously got out , I had nowhere to go and no time to brake much so ended up with him as an airbag (lardbag?) between my front wheel and his (broken and uncloseable) door.

The last I saw of him he was responding very impolitely to my suggestion that he might wish to visit the opticians, while at the same time nursing certain sensitive parts of his anatomy which had been in contact with my front wheel!

Neither I nor my bike were injured.

Mrs-LC always says people should be made to ride a bike, a motorcycle and walk a mile down the side of a busy A-road just so they get an appreciation of being outside of an air-conditioned metail box.

I'd add that a bit of a shot in a large vehicle is worth doing also.
