If you mean a hub thats fixed on both sides then don`t think so, as threads different for a fixed cog compared with freewheel.

However, if you mean a flip flop rear hub, then yes you can. I run an 18T track cog and the single speed side and a standard 17T freewheel socket on the other. I haven't used this side though preffering to just ride fixed and might actually whip it off to shed a few grams.

I have flip flop wheel that will take 2 fixed sprockets or 1 fixed and 1 freewheel,

It's not meant for 2 fixed sprockets as there is only 1 side with provision for a lockring

But I've never had any problems with using fixed sprockets without a lockring if you
use the rotafix method of tightening them up

I'm currently building a geared bike as more and more of my rides are with fellow cc'ers

up in the yorkshire dales,i just cant keep up on the steep hills

The wheel is sold by edinburgh cycle coop at £59.99,mines about 6 months old

if you've got an equivalent quality road bike rear wheel maybe we could do a swap??

Thanks for the offer!

I don't have a proper road bike, unfortunately; just the single speeder and two mountain bikes.

I decided to by a pair of flip/flop wheels off ebay for £65. Won't be top quality at that price, but they'll have to do!

I had the freewheel taken off my Boardman because it would have seized up before i actually used it !

The threads are in fact the same so it will work fine.

The step cut in for the lockring is all that is different, it's not a problem.

So yes to the OP - buy a double fixed hub and you can run a freewheel on one side if you wish.

I going to whip the freewheel off mine and whack it on fleabay, I'm not going to use it so I might a well try and get a couple of quid for it.
