Brian Hanrahan and Anthony Howard have both passed away.
Tony Howard was great to listen to and the guys were both BBC regulars.

I met Anthony Howard on a train from Kings Cross to York, I was sitting opposite him across the table. We chatted for a while about items of news in the Guardian I was reading. He was a gentleman with a capital G.

[useless fact of the day] I remember when Howard presented some politics prog with Peregrine Worsthorne. I thought for a long time that Howard was Worsthorne, as he looked like he could be called Peregrine.

Howard was a good journo, as indeed was Hanrahan. RIP to both.

Indeed! Brian Hanrahan - just 1 year older than I am . All journos are by definition controversial, and these two were no exception, but still two decent guys and a great loss. RIP.

I didn't meet Brian Hanrahan, but he was a good mate of a mate of mine. He was always spoken well of and with warmth.

Sad that he should go so soon after the last flight of the plane that gave him his immortal line.

I remember that from when I was a kid, and the fact that he had a beard until the Falklands, when he had to shave it off to comply with Naval regulations (something to do with the antiflash masks).

I met Brian on a couple of occasions about 12 years ago. My Son and his Daughter attended the same school. I remember him helping out when the school had it's summer fete and other school activities, just like any caring dad would do. A nice man. RIP.
