Thanks everyone - I'm all for hopping back on once everything is fixed up, but my elbow and hand are buggered (nothing broken, but the impact seems to have knocked the whatsit out of them) - I'm off for a week at least, I think, even if the bike shop are able to sort the bike quickly. (Typing one handed is taking some getting used to).

My missus played hell when I was wiped out on the A6 in Manchester 12 or so years ago (broken hand, written off bike) - more or less banned me from commuting to work by bike, following a number of close shaves/accidents......

Made sure she was OK with it when I got back into commuting early last year. She realises I don't tell her about close shaves, but you can't hide the fact that you've been knocked off.

Really sorry to hear that John. You do really seem to be a 'w**k*r magnet' on the road.

You really must keep on cycling don't let these idiots stop you doing the things you enjoy.

Perhaps those crash avoidance systems fitted to the latest Volvos should be fitted to all cars. You know, you get too close to the vehicle in front, and the computer slams on the anchors.

If motorists can't be trusted to use their noodle and keep a safe distance by themselves, they should have to pay a premium for the system on new car purchases.
