Came off today going up the drop kerb from the road to a cycle path. I was probably doing about 15mph and was a bit more careful than usual because of the temperature and dampness but it did me little good. I was on my "hybrid" with 32mm tyres, ripped my winter longs and cut my leg, bumped my helmet on the pavement :banghead: and hurt my arm (elbow area). I biked home as it was only another 1.5 miles but the bike isn't quite right so I'll have a look at it tomorrow. Hopefully the arm is OK and just a bit jolted and this will serve as a fairly harmless reminder to me to be more careful in future.

Sorry to hear that. 15mph sounds a little too fast to move on to a dropped curb. I usually take these are a much slower pace, unless they are totally level with the road.

The cycle path outside my house had a lot of ice on it today, definitely time to take things easy out there.
I wouldn't be going 15mph up a dropped kerb either, maybe dropping off one but not up one

Similar happened to me yesterday. Perfectly level through dropped kerb from road to shared use pavement. Usually hit at around 20 mph cos it's all downhill and no peds in sight. Wallop ! as I went to straighten up on pavement I found my back wheel overtaking my front as I when arse skating a considerable distance down the pavement. Roads had been gritted - but pavements covered in black ice. Shredded elbow of my windproof jacket, bruised hip, but bike was OK, apart from brake lever twisted round on handlebar.

I can't argue with that

We live and learn.......hindsight is a wonderful thing

Hope the pain is easing a little. I sprained my ankle and bashed my knee running in the dark and falling down a pothole yesterday.......I should definitely stick to the bike

I guess I thought I'd done it there dozens of times before, I was on my hybrid not the road bike, I hit it at a better angle than usual because of the temperature so I'd be OK. My arm is getting worse so I may go to hopsibubble in the morning. Poo.

Went to A&E this morning. I have a fractured bone in my elbow and will be off the bike for a while. I guess this means I'm nearly a "proper" cyclist as I've:
  1. Been cycling for about 6 months
  2. cycled over 1000 miles
  3. got 3 bikes
  4. Been to A&E
  5. broken a bone
missed anything?
