After my post earlier I could not feel more welcome into the cycling world and look forward to getting out there. As I said previously this is going to be used on light tracks (Greenway) but mostly on roads. While also looking to take part in events such as London to Brighton. I have worked it down to 2 bikes from various posts would some people be able to advise what will be most suited to my "life". I will be ordering from Tredz so anyone else purchased from them?

Bike 1 (£350 not what it says online): http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Specialized...YAKwyT7ORBFk3gC4upBQFOIIJuSMD4wRKChoCe3nw_wcB

Bike 2: http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Ridgeback-Flight-00-2014-Hybrid-Sports-Bike_67830.htm

What would you recommend but I am not looking for the most expensive as I am just starting out and need to by lights etc. :bicycle:

I'd forget anything with a telescopic fork for mainly-road-riding.

You can do L2B on any bike, it's not a race type event, too many people

If inexperienced, better to buy a bike from a local shop. Where are you, assume not S Wales where Tredz are if you are doing L2B

The Ridgeback looks perfect for your needs, get a test ride from Evans and get them to price match Tredz to boot

Hi I am from a smallish town in Hertfordshire called Baldock so out of the way of even Evans so may make a trip to Milton Keynes next week.

I'd hesitate to recommend any particular bicycle to anyone unless I knew them and their needs in depth to be honest.

The reason I suggest you avoid telescopic forks is that they add considerable weight and also convert some of your pedal power into a "nodding donkey" movement.

That would rule-out the Specialized for me, but your Ridgeback alternative looks fine.
As @vickster says, try and get a ride on one (or something similar) and take it from there.

That is what I look like I am going to do, I will be going over to Evans on Friday. To have a look. Would anyone else recommend a bike from there I could maybe try?

It'll depend what they have in the shop in your size, they have lots of bikes in the decent sized stores, but not everything on their website

Bikes around that price range will be much of a muchness at RRP. If you can find an end of line discounted model you may get a better spec for the dosh. Looking at their website, they don't look to have anything better than the Ridgeback for £400 (have Evans price match Tredz)
