Drops for a commute - I don't think so - unless you're cycling 10-15 miles+ each way don't bother.
Flat bars = better visibility on the road.
It's the Whyte all the way - better components and lighter.

i ended just putting a deposit down on a Genesis Equilibrium 10. Its a black 2011 model and i'm sticking tortec expedition rack and 56 altura dryline panniers on it as well as full guards. (a set up i've used for touring with great effect in the past)
I did look at the boardman CX team and was impressed visually and in terms of components but there is no way i would spend that cash without a test ride and halfords wouldn't let me have one. i even started considering the criox de fer

I went to a few of my local bike shops and left even more confussed before heading to one shop which had the equilibrium. I've never even heard of it but the chap suggested it as suitable for my uses. 14miles a day commuting on road all year round and European touring a few weeks a year.
It is a steel frame and i have heard good things about steel and also so much said about the weight issues. i can tell you i was so suprised when i picked it up and it was so much lighter than it looked. Sure its not my 8kg race bike but it wasn't far off. I took it for a test ride and it was so comfy, unlike anything i've ridden before. i mean off the shelf just right. i could see myself eating up miles on it at a steady pace, sure it wasn't as quick to get up to speed as my race bike but it wasn't far off and it climbed better and just felt great to ride and much more stable. now i just need to wait the agonising 3 weeks till payday and pick it up and post some pictures
