Drinking & cycling

Taking up something that has been said on another thread, about being drunk on a bike.
We are all made aware of the dangers of drinking & driving. But how many of those that condone drinking & driving will do the same for drinking & cycling.

Also how many that wouldn't drink & drive wouldn't think twice about cycling having been drinking.

For the puropse of this thread equal amounts have been drunk.

The laws on the two are actually different, let alone anything else. Whereas a certain amount for a motor vehicle will get you into illegal territory, because it is measured differently for a bike it would not necessarily be illegal on the bike. Still not a good idea but if you're wanting an equivalence for larger quantities I'd say it would be more like drinking below the legal limit for a car, still highly unrecommended.

It's not very nice trying to cycle when drunk, but I have done it - NOT on the road, on a cycleway - and it's not something I care to repeat very often

Only have done it on a slight hangover...i.e. de-hydrated....... not to be recommended after a fair few............

I actually had my best average in hungover with only about 3 or 4 hours sleep....thankfully that day there was a nice man who was happy to share being up front so to get to work on time I only had to put half as much effort in

As for being drunk when cycling, I could accept it more as it's more likely that you'll only hurt yourself. Personally, I'd have a pint, or a glass of wine and still cycle. Probably fine to drive too but wouldn't. At least on the bike the elements can sober you up a bit

I never drink and drive ... to the point where if i've been out on a saturday night i wont drive on the sunday

But i would have a couple of pints and cycle

As for the question? I rarely drink and cycle and when I do it is usually half a pint. As I've commented before several people I know drink 3 or 4 pints on rides. I've never drunk and driven, I think even after half pint I'd hypothetically start to notice fairly sizable differences in driving and beyond that it would run away quite rapidly.

I'd not drink more than a half and drive.
Drink and cycle, however...I won't drink more than about 2. Or three. Oh, OK, if you're buying, I'll have another. Anyone want one or two for the road?

Years ago I cycled back from a Fairport Convention reunion after waaaay too much and it wasn't a pleasant experience - certainly not one I've ever found the need to repeat (the drinking and cycling that is not F.C.)

I got absolutely steaming a couple of weeks ago and then realised I had to cycle three miles home. I still had enough sense to realise I shouldn't be on the road, so I walked a mile to a shared-use cycle path and cycled the rest. You can be done for drunk cycling, but they can't breathilyse breathylise ask you to blow in the plastic bag. I think they can ask to touch your nose with your fingertip or walk in a straight line. They can even nick you on a bridleway, although I can't ever remember seeing a copper on a bridleway. I'm not sure where you stand with cyclepaths. My understanding was that they couldn't put points on your licence, but someone on here said the government's introduced some sneaky way of doing it.

I won't have more than two pints (over the course of an evening) if I'm driving, but I'll have a go at riding a bike as long as I can stand up.

Doing things you wouldn't have normally done is the whole point of drinking.

I can ride a bike even when I can't stand up!
I can also have a major clipless moment on the drive and get a facefull of gravel.
