No, I didn't know that! I do know that someone hooked up with the Friday Night Ride to the Coast after asking where they were going and mis-hearing the reply as 'Brixton'
I expect they realised thier mistake by the time they got to Ditchling Beacon.

It depends what you mean by drinking, a couple of pints and a short ride home is something I've done but going out for a ride I would not do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did that once. I went for a twenty mile spin on my fixed wheel bike after a curry and a Saturday night session in the pub. I was a lot faster than usual, too.

Most of my beer-and-bike exploits have been of the ride, beer and short ride home sort. There was the time a few of us cycled to a beer festival, then cycled home afterwards.
No-one fell in the duckpond, but one of our number was almost run over. By an ambulance.

And on a CTC evening ride (wiggly 15 mile ride to the pub, 5 mile ride back) we found that Marstons Pedigree was half price!!! We stayed till they shut

Must confess to doing it on a regular basis. I meet friends in the pub after work occasionally - not often, but every now and then - and routinely drink for a couple of hours, which means I've left the limit in my wake by the time I leave. I wouldn't dream of driving, but I cycle with no real qualms. What's the difference? First, I honestly think it's safer than driving - the exposure to the elements and the physical effort keep you focused and engaged, in a way that being in a nice cosy metal cocoon doesn't. Second, I know I won't lose my license. Third and most importantly, I really don't think I'm a potential danger (if at all) to anyone but me.

I hasten to add that I'm not recommending it to anyone else...and can understand why others might (and do) take a different view, but I have no great problems with it, personally.

I cycled home from the Wallingford real ale and folk festival, which is about fifteen miles away, a couple of times. I cycled home along the A road once, concentrating on keeping on the white line along the side of the road. Other times I cycled along the country lane route. I remember it being very dark once. Another time I nearly cycled over a pheasant that was asleep in the road.

Cycling and drinking was one of the highlights of my year in 2009. It adds respect with familiarity yet excludes the contempt bit.

And it was a rare blast!

She's gorgeous, Ape. Who on earth is she?

I've been driven back from the pub!

I've drunk and run in the distant past and regretted it. Cycling is fine as long as it's not an eyeballs out ride.

I did the L to B after a really heavy medical student party when I was about 24, and had a couple of pints along the way at lunchtime. No problem at all. There is no way that I could do that now.

Last year, towards the end of a six hour pootle in Holland, I stopped off at a bar to have a pee, but it was a Friday evening, and all the locals were welcoming. The small glass of beer was about the best I have ever tasted, but I did regret it for the next ninety minutes afterwards. "Beer goes to your legs", my Dutch friends said, when I finally arrived in Amsterdam. Yes indeed, I just can't do it anymore.

About 25 years ago a clubmate and I had a skinfull in Plumpton, Sussex whilst I was completing the Young's list of pubs. We rode home, a very hilly route, and could not remember a thing about it.

Now that I am an old fart I never drink and cycle on the road.

I know that running bit is not a good idea. Back in the foolhardy days of fitness for sport, I used to play a fair bit of rugby and there were always 'pub teams' and 'social' teams that needed a game on a Sunday. We used to have far too much prior (always light and bitter in those days as it was always 3/4 pint + a bottle of light:tongue:), and it was stupid taking the field 'thinking it big'.
Stupid being the key word.
