Unbelievable, just goes to show it's not just cyclists who benefit from cameras. Driver should be charged with dangerous driving and attempted fraud

The trucker pulled over pretty quickly. Remember, slamming brakes on a HGV isn't a good idea. You can see the driver not moving - he should have seen the HGV was there - you can't expect to be given a gap - there was one, and the driver should have took it. Crap driving you see from many car drivers.

Hats off the the HGV driver for a slow stop. Any quick stop could have pinged the car out into the motorway traffic !

The comments are really good .

If the lorry driver had left a 2 second gap from the lorry in front, the civic driver would have no trouble merging.
Alternatively the lorry driver could have eased gently off the throttle and let the car merge ...
The trouble is these HGV drivers are the bullies of the roads. They stick the thing on cruise control and (as can be seen from this footage) never switch it off or brake for anything. Hence the ridiculous 20 mile / 30 minute overtakes of other lorries they like to make.
There could have been children or toddlers on the car, the driver of the HGV wasn't bothered, and unfortunately the camera doesn't show what the driver was doing ...
Have they checked his mobile phone - or the last time his laptop was fired up

Ok I will bite, you are talking bollox and many of the points you raise in your message do not even deserve a response.

Due to the fact you're basically pushing the vehicle to it's limits of braking/grip (near-)emergency stops always run the risk of a spin & unexpected results. Add in the unknown influence of pushing a car a long and best to smoothly slow down in a quick but controlled manner. Also note that the HGV driver was pulling to the side at the same time as slowing down so that will also reduce the amount of braking you want to apply as this reduces the total grip available for braking. Sure the driver could have stopped in a straight line but then you have a slow moving vehicle on a high speed road which is a good recipe for a high speed rear end collision.

I agree. And he was still over the slip road, he had to avoid any other cars that were still joining.
So he stopped in the first safe place he could.

Odd thing is the Honda seems to be going for the gap but then drops back a bit.

There was lots of space for the car to slot in between the two lorries or behind this one so really no fault of the lorry driver. Leave a bigger gap and someone will fill it.

Some car drivers are really really useless at merging, they just don't look at all until they are at the point where their lane is almost gone.

As for Honda drivers..... should they really be allowed on a motorway?
