The thing is when you point out to them their illegal activity they respond aggressively with scowling faces or hand gestures, they just do not think that they are doing anything wrong!! The bloke in the "cyclist v car" programme last week certainly got a less aggressive approach from them when he pointed out that he was filming them on his helmet camera."A hot potato" i think he used to refer to them dropping the phone into their laps.

Apps are available that detect the speed of the car and then require a randomly generated code to be input into the phone before it can be used (if the car is moving). The theory is that the driver wouldn't be able to view and copy the code into the phone within the allowed time, but a passenger would. I do wonder if it might lead to drivers concentrating solely on the phone though?
hmmm - maybe drivers will just change their concentration from 80%phone/20% road ahead to 99% phone.

I think car crushed, loss of licence for ever and £10,000 fine would be a better way forward.
That's a waste of all the resources and energy that went into making the car.

It should be 2 strikes and you're out. First offence, a decent fine and lots of points. Second offence, that's it, life ban. Same with most offences - you get one chance to make a mistake, if you can't learn from it, tough.
