Driving at night

I don't mind it.
I wear prescription specs and keep them and the inside of the windscreen really clean, and use good quality screen wash (Prestone, which includes RainX) at a decent strength and replace the wipers as soon as they need it - it makes a difference.

That said, my commute home has increased by 10-15 minutes since the clocks went back. The number of other drivers who struggle to deal with the dark is scary and I'm glad I'm not on the bike some nights.

I never minded towing a caravan at night (or any other time tbf)... 50mph and relax. It's the speed that makes you tired, driving at a relatively sensible speed is very 'relaxing'

Our summer holiday run is normally set off at 2am, I'm relatively new to towing but maybe if I get enough miles under my belt it might be an option with the 'van.

I found it quite relaxing towing for the most part last time out as well.

Apparently 42 is the age our eyes start to deteriorate. I blame computers for my eye deterioration. Too much time sat in front of one or on my phone

I don't enjoy it anymore. Think its a combination of age and eyesight deterioration and that headlights just seem a lot brighter when oncoming now. I'm just guessing the old maximum of 55 Watt headlamp is a bit more open to abuse with LED/HID equivalents.
That said I'm doing a lot more driving in the dark since a job change. I've done something like twice last years total annual mileage in half that time, so while not enjoying it, I've gotten used to it.

When driving to catch a ferry to go to France, I used to drive through the night and carry on in France afterwards. Not anymore, now I tend to fly and hire a car on the other side otherwise stop overnight in a Premier Inn on the way.

LED/Xenon headlights definitely make it a pain in the ass

This was one road, up near the Windfarm, to the north-west of Penistone a few years ago (Feb 2005, according to date-stamp)
I did hear of someone who tried to drive down it at night, as it was snowing lightly at the north end (near 'Sovereign cross-roads') & subsequently found himself marooned overnight
And, he was local too - so should know what difference a couple of hundred feet of altitude can make up there!!!

I turned round as I was pushing it with the radiator grill on some stretches

Yeah sounds about right. In our mid-40s we went into a new Japanese restaurant, low lighting, surrounded by loudly-chattering 20-somethings, and we tried to use the table top candles to read the menu. The staff saw us, turned up the lights in the whole restaurant, everyone looked round.... Priceless!

But as an aside, why did you sit on your phone?

This is true, driving in the rush hour or on a busy dark wet motorway is another thing though.

Towing after midnight is brilliant, not much traffic around then.
