I had a car following closely behind me last week along a narrow road leading into my village. Just as I was approaching the spot where the road narrows to one lane with a hump (traffic calming) the car overtakes me and, as another car with right of way was approaching, braked right in front of me. There was no chance I was going to stop, it was that close, so I went up the inside and just managed to get past without falling off. I should explain there is ample room for a car and a bike at the pinch point.

As with the OP I too offered the driver the option of a new instructor when he pulled up around 10 doors from home after getting by me again.

Yeah, I would, because this is teaching dis-respect and intolerance to and never mind others never mind cyclists.

If, as you say you were in proper distance tot he junction to make the manouvre that you did yet the 'instructor did as you describe then very very much soo...

This is a rediculous way of driving: in fact if she does that upon begining driving:?: she', WILL NOT LAST LONG !!!!

What hope have we got when driving instructors teach their pupils to do this.

commuting home last night, approaching island, want to get into primary position in the 2nd lane.

indicate, wait for gap, still indicating, get eye contact with learner driver, she slows down, so i take the gap and thank her with a thumbs up.

driving instructor obviously tells her to do this... she changes lane, undertakes me in the left lane and pulls back in front of me causing me to brake sooner than i thought i had to.

completely lost it, pulled up the side of the driving instructor, luckily he had his window down... asked him if that is the way he teaches all his pupils, and i shouts over to her that she needs a new driving instructor if that's how he teaches his pupils to behave around cyclists on the road.

he tells her to ignore me and carry on.

dammit, should have thought to get his reg number and complain to BSM.

and some of them aren't even actually qualified - they have PDI status (provisional) rather than ADI (approved). They'll have passed theory and practical exams but not the instruction exam yet (the one that proves you are a competent teacher). I think you can tell by the colour of the badge in their windscreen.
green octagon = qualified
pink triangle = provisional

all driving instructors are self employed, and do not work for the dept. of transport as one might imagine. the final exam is an absolute lottery and can fail good instructors and pass bad ones. it's a stupid system that gives you a job for 6 months that they then take off you if you fluff the exam 3 times.

imo it's no surprise that the standard of driving in this country is so poor, given that system.
