Drove in twice this week... What a slacker!

I cycle to work every day (as most people in commuting threads do - I'm not asking for medals) only snow and very heavy frost will usually make think twice.. rain? I'm waterproof, bikes waterproof no problem.

But this week I've driven in twice, Thursday I had a real reason (reasons are always better than excuses) in that my car was being M.O.T'd and it was easier to take it to work and get a local garage to come and fetch it and bring it back if it passed instead of hanging around a garage reception biting fingernails on a day off (it did pass... hoorah) I did put the bike in the boot so I could ride home if the car failed deliberately because of the attention the bike gets.

But this morning apart from it was raining and the O.H and littleun didn't need to get up for work and school respectively, so ashamed as I am to admit it I took the easy option of the extra 20 minutes in bed, I promise I won't do it again or it could easily become a habit.

I've also had to use the car a lot recently, 3 out of 5 days this week in fact. Combination of unwell children and car requiring work, the garage kept being sent the wrong parts.

Every day I took the car I sat in traffic and pondered how much quicker it would have been on the bike, it was great to get back on it on Thursday and Friday, got soaked Friday night but somehow I don't mind getting wet, it's just the wind I hate!

Thursday was not an option, but I was beating myself up about being lazy this morning....... until I left work in torrential rain, I did allow myself a little smile. I would have cycled home in it but glad I didn't have to!

wish i could bike to work, working 5.00 pm till 2-3am so no chance. and 44 mile round trip, would do it if on normal hours.
Is it the mileage or the hours that put you off.
If on days I leave at 4am and return at 6pm, nights leave at 4pm return at 6am. Now the 44 mile round trip would make me think for a while (but due to madness I'd go for it anyway).

Since buying the car at the end of last summer I've only been cycle commuting four days most weeks, I figure that having been a five day a week all weather cycle commuter for over thirty years I've done enough for a day off now on a regular basis.

Sir, you are a cad and a rotter for being unfaithful to your bike- and with a car of all things! As penance for this mortal sin you must recite the entire Tektro disc brake workshop Manual ten times, while flagellating yourself with an oily drive chain.

I find that the less i use the car or the motorbike, the less i want to. Problem is, the opposite is also true and if i drive in once, i get the taste for it and want to do it again. I didnt ride at all this week. Meetings at work, a dodgy hub and the wet just encouraged me into the car too much.

I used the motorbike twice, the rest was the car!!

Hope to go cold turkey by wednesday, as soon as i get tuesdays meetings out the way and sort the bike out.

I have totally got out of the habit of cycling, only been to work on it about 5 times this year. I really need to start doing it again but have become lazy.

As well as fitness the money saved motivates me. Even a 15 mile round trip commute 5/6 days a week saves me a sizeable sum between 60 and 80 quid a month! To the wife it gives me a reason owning a nice(ish) bike (and upgrading it every now and then!)
