Had to drive to work today as not sure about the weather (Haven't got waterproofs yet).

As soon as I hit the main roads I could feel my blood pressure rising. Makes me glad a cycle to work 99% of the time.

Anybody else now cycle when they used to drive ?

Been cycling for 18 months or so now, having driven for years and years and years before that, barring a brief dalliance with the train.

I've had to drive only a few times since my cycling days started, but I agree: it is a whole bunch more stressful on four wheels than it is on two and I definitely miss the bike.

Last time I had to do it was two days in a row when Little-LC was not well and needed dropping off with her grandparents to be looked after. Mrs-LC commented in the evening of the second day how grumpy I was .. ;)

Yeah driving to work sucks, it really does. I'm lucky to have a shower at work so I don't care what state I arrive in, so if it rains then it rains. That said, I have just bought a brand new set of mudguards - first ever pair and I can't wait to fit them! (how bloody sad is that)

Cycling is the way forward, I've even convinced a few of my mates to do the same.

Cycling as much as possible. Can't always do it when have meetings with clients out of the office. Trying to plan those meetings carefully though so minimum impact on cycling.

Don't have a shower at work but have one first thing and then use baby wipes etc once at work and cooled down. Works fine.

Pity really as I spent quite a bit of money on a new car last May.

That's a dilema I have, looking at updating my car in about 16 months time but not sure if I actaully need a new one now I have the bike. We bought a new family car last year which the wife drives and my one just sits on the drive most of the time.

At the weekends we try and use my car but end up going out in the family car most times.

Might try and justify a much more expensive carbon bike instead ;)

It's strange when you stop riding. Been in Aussie and drove from Sydney to Brisbane (c700 miles) - hardly any traffic and great sceneray I almost enjoyed it.

Arrived at our destination (Noosa a smallish holiday town) parked the hire car up picked up the hire bike and then remember very quickly why I love riding so much

Sounds like a far more sensible idea ;)

Drove to work today. Realised that I missed the fast sweeping round Birmingham's inner ring road, the inane prattle of the radio, and a cheery "morning" to the receptionist.

However when I ride in tomorrow, I will find myself a few yards down the road with a grin on my face, as I remember how much fun it is cycling.

Had to come in by motorbike today...I say "had"...what i mean is...it was a bit wet out!!

No, I really "had" to, as I needed to get to a meeting in town at 8.00.

I found it quite slippery and really cold on the motorbike and turned up feeling quite stiff and "locked" into position, I never (so far) seem to get really cold on the bike (pushbike) as the work effort keeps you warm and all the movement keeps your body from locking up.

Must buy mudgaurds, my back is getting soaked!!

How much rain have we had in October compared to Sept!!!??

Agree with the motorbike comment JJ as I also ride or used to ride Motorbikes and after a good few miles in the winter your knees lock, fingers freeze. Never had that issue in the pushbike due to the blood circulating round all the time.

JJ, I seem to remember seeing on the local weather forecast the other night that some bloke in Broadstairs had recorded 7mm of rain in September. We must have had 70 or so in the last few days ..

Driving to work has never been an option, as I work in the middle of London - driving in would be a nitemare, plus the congestion charge, plus parking costs about £400 a day - but I did used to come in one the tube till I got back into cycling. Nowadays the only thing that gets me back on the tube is if there's proper ice on the roads. I probably lose 1 or 2 days a year like that. I can't imagine ever going back.
