Dulcimers

I was in a music shop recently and heard somebody playing an Appalachian Dulcimer. What a lovely sound!!
Anybody had any experience of these? Are they relatively easy to play?

The hammered dulcimer is one of my favourite instruments to listen to, never tried playing one though.

Didn't the Appalachians invent the dulcimer? They have some beautiful folk songs.

Fairport Convention used an electric dulcimer on some tracks of their Unhalfbricking album.

The Horniman Museum in SE London has at least one dulcimer which gets played every so often.

At the 'Richard 111' celebrations there was a guy playing a 'Hammered Dulcimer' in the courtyard of the Guildhall, he also played one of these,

You will find the view from the gardens somewhat changed then. Now rather dramatic, one of the best views in london. Say hi to the giant white rabbit as well.
