A KMC chain will fit Shimano gearing.
And if you do a search of the forums you will see that the general consensus is that KMC chains are far better then Shimano chains.
I have certainly found that the case.
The 6600, 6700 are the groupset release numbers.
ie 6600 is an older set then 6700
And current Shimano chains from 105 upwards differ from one side to the other and are actually unidirectional. I think I too would use KMC chains if looking for a replacement, unless the original was one of the Shimmy U/D chains then I'd replace like for like.
When I rebuilt my olde Alpinestars I fitted a nickel plated Shimano UG chain just for the sake orf originality.
