Greetings all. Newbie here from Essex.

Are there people doing the Dunwich Dynamo this year? I’m just looking to tag along with someone who is slow as a snail like me. I think I can finish the distance if I have company but can’t do it all alone. Anyone willing to ride together or do I just follow the blinking red tail lights ?

My speed is limited to 10 Kmph.

Cheers,
Weasel.

Hi Weasel.

It is good that you have taken up cycling and are keen to attempt new challenges but the DD sounds like a huge overreach for you at the moment...

112 miles is 180 km so at your maximum average speed it would take 18 hours to ride it and that would be without stopping at all. You would probably be looking at more like 20 hours with stops and I can't see that being very doable. You certainly wouldn't have much company or many lights to follow because everyone else would be up the road somewhere.

Why not aim for something more easily attainable, such as a 50 km ride? If that went okay, try 75 km, then 100 km, and so on.

Anyway, whatever you decide to do, good luck, and keep on cycling!

Hehehe, thank you and I like how subtly you put it. Pure facts though.

I have tried going to the gym but seeing more people record videos than exercise put me off. Don’t know how to swim so that left with me walking or cycling. I walk everywhere as I love to watch things pass-by slowly. Cycling takes me to new places at a pace I like (faster than walking but not quick enough to not appreciate the nature).

Had the same calculations as above but then I realised it’s night and I can’t see much so maybe, I can up my speed a little.

I’m not trying to finish it. See how far and long I can go with so many cyclists for company (albeit for a very small time knowing my speed). 7 PM start and finish cycling at 7 AM, irrespective of the distance covered. Would have done 120 KMs at my pace and if I add another 5 Kmph maybe I can cover another 40 k’s, so I am looking at 150 Kms realistically (factoring in the stops). Have a mate who can pick me up between Ipswich and the finish / where ever I decide to stop.

Good luck to everyone & especially me.

Come on, INGERLAAND!!!

Hello. I admire your courage and determination. I have never ridden that particular ride. Just riding at your own pace and not trying to latch on to anyone going a bit faster. I hope it goes well for you.

Hi and welcome.
The big concern I'd have - and it's the main reason I've never considered the DD - is the lack of bail out points. You don't really pass any railway stations, and the end is in the middle of nowhere.
