Hi,

Im liking the look of a matt black frame, but from automotive experience I know they can be a bit fragile. I remember BMW did a tungsten matt grey that was a few thousand pounds, and they would give no warrenty on it as it was so fragile.

As Im thinking of building my dream bike I would like a matt frame (s-works tarmac), Anyone have experience of matt paintwork on a bike? Was it easily damaged, or marked by sweat dripping on it?

If it's carbon, then it's OK as it's generally not a 'paint' finish. It will need wiping down as you'll get 'water' marks on it, but it's not a big issue. Matt on alloy/steel, then they do tend to be brittle.

I've got a matt black frame, I liked it when it was new but now I've touched various scratches up, it looks poo. No more matt frames for me.

I've got a matt black Ribble, alloy, not a mark after 6 years - seems incredibly tough finish - think it is paint. But maybe anodized finish is generally tougher?
