......... the Specialized Allez.. I bought one when I went back to cycling on my 64th birthday, that is 10 years ago. The hard core cyclists would call it an entry level bike as it costs less than a £1000.
I also have 3 other bikes, all more expensive than the Allez but every time I ride it again, I really enjoy my ride and the feel of the bike.
Don't get me wrong, I also enjoy the other three but when I ride the Allez, it makes me think that it is not always necessary to spend lots of money to get a good bike and if I had to, I would be very happy to get another one. I think they retail at £799. What a bargain !

Bought mine in 2009. Still in use, with original saddle and frame, and although it doesn't get used daily, it shares almost equally its commuting duties with my other bike.

Tyres, handlebar tape and brake pads might have been changed a few times. And cassette. And groupset.

Great to hear ! And if you enjoy: Nothing else matters ;) And whilst not a Specialized Allez..............

I get as much or more enjoyment (Currently.....in Winter ?) on my £100 value; Carerra Subway 1 'beater'
- than anything else i own.

It still rides great. And being able to be carefree / not worry too much how i use it, where i leave it, where
we might be going, if its going to be left out of sight, if the 'route' might add a few scrapes or scratches -
contributes largely to that.

It doesn't have to have a lightweight frame or super fast wheels or even a half decent groupset to be a great ride. My frame is steel, the wheels were built by me from hubs, spokes and rims from our scrap pile at work and the other bits are mainly Tourney. The whole thing hasn't cost me more than £100. The tyres are the icing on the cake and again were off our scrap pile. Only seven speed but even then I only use three sprockets at the back and both chain rings at the front so any more would superfluous. You don't need a fortune for a quality ride.

I love my Allez (2010 vintage) 😍 It makes me smile every time I ride it - except on the turbo trainer but that's not the fault of the bike

As far as I can tell, it has the original Sora FD & RD but I replaced the brifters for newer ones when I bought the bike and swapped out the cassette for one with a bigger range of gears. I'm currently experimenting with a 48tooth chainring in place of the standard 50tooth one.

I wouldn't say no to a new one ^_^

I remember in 2010 looking for a bike and I was torn between the Specialized Allez and the Giant Defy2, the Defy won as I felt that I was getting better VFM out of the Defy, still use it to this day, but I also have a lot of respect for the Allez from that period, bikes seemed pretty good at that time, the bikes being sold at the £500 -600 price point were a good entry point for a lot of people, the bikes were light, fun to ride and they were relatively affordable, they didn't wipe out your household budget for the rest of the year.
