We've had a thought for this years holiday of flying from the toon to Dusseldorf,Hiring bikes for 3 days and heading down the Rhine to Bingen,Then train back to 'dorf and fly home
Simples!!
Has anybody done a similar thing!?!?
i would appreciate any help regarding bike hire, and wondered if it would be possible to leave the bikes at Bingen(instead of taking them back on the train)
Any other tips re- accommodation or places to visit would be gratefully received as well.

Cheers people!!!!!!

That'll be a section of the Rhein Radweg you are covering. pleasant cycling with well signposted route and mostly segregated high quality path throughout. I've passed that way several times, but no knowledge of cycle hire or accommodation as I have camped along the way.
There is a Bikeline guidebook titled Rhein Radweg (Teil 3 Von Mainz nach Rotterdam) the maps are good, the text is in German but can be helpful for finding accommodation and places of interest. Otoh, you can get cheaper folding guides for the route from tourist offices/bookshops in Dusseldorf.

Plenty of sights to see along the way, depends on your interests what you might choose to visit.
