Wouldn't work in the UK. Someone would just steal the pole.

On my commute today I looked out for suitable poles, and there were surprisingly few of them. An awful lot of lamp posts have parking restriction signs that would prevent the "climber" reaching a safe altitude. Others have knobbly bits that would thwart the gizmo. The camera poles for the Congestion Charge would be ideal but they are fairly chunky so the lock would weigh a bit.
