DVD burner won't burn

i have a usb dvd burner i bought for little dollar on ebay. works a treat on my intel macbook with usb 2.0 ports, but shows the same performance issues in my emac with usb 1.1.

does your computer have usb 2.0?

Yes it does have USB 2.0, but my drive is an internal drive connected by SATA.

Trying some more things this week, MB monitor to test power supply, then XP reinstall (Gulp!). Then win 7 upgrade. If that doesn't work I'll give up!
