Every time I see this thread title it makes me think of Lesbian Dopeheads on Mopeds

Nothing definite anywhere. Best I can find: http://www.glbtq.com...opic.php?t=1294 Some other sources say the word bulldyke is as old as the word dyke or precedes it, which is interesting.

As with all words that have been "reclaimed", it's pretty much a matter of who uses it and how. Context context context.
I don't think the word is always negative. In fact when I first read the thread title, not realizing it referred to that article, I thought someone was trying to summon the lesbian contingent of Cycle Chat members (is there one?) for a pleasant all-lesbian Sunday ride...

Thanks for that!

I think they are more interested in the camera than him.

I would acept that if they stuck their fawning, butt-kissing mugs in the camera of other shows, like Antiques Road Show or Songs of Praise. But they flock in their thousands to flutter their eyes at Clarkson, and laugh at his (scriptwriter's) jokes.

One contingent, or one lesbian? ;)

And the girls on Top Gear, I always assumed they were with their boyfriends and making the best of it.

Or if it was me, I'd be lusting after Hammond. Or May.

Add to those reasons the generic 'it's a chance to be on TV' and you've got what I always assumed was the draw as well.

Certainly all the 'boys friends' know that the only way they stand a chance of being selected for the studio audience is to apply as a couple. The producers are very keen that the background of each shot should not exclusively be sad blokish anoraks jacking off over the sound of twin turbos.

No matter how many, we should go for that Sunday ride...

It's a bit more complicated than that...
I wonder if she complained about this piece......................

Ashtrayhead, the point is somewhere thataway ---->

The offence was not in the word as in the way it was used. And the greater offence, and the offence actually complained of, was in the editor's mealy-mouthed and insulting defence of his "star" columnist.

(Shouldn't we be migrating to P&L? It would be nice to have a thread about the use of language that wasn't a gratuitous excuse to bash the fatsos.)

I knew she was gay but frankly don't care, it's no business of mine, so long as she does her job & enjoyed the programme anyway.

There does seem to be this attitude of people trying too hard to not let sexuality be a prominent part of who someone is. I believe it is a large part of what makes someone who they are, it's a huge part of their life. Either way, they should be proud of it, without doubt, but I become tired when people are quick to mention it's not their business.

That is such BS that I cannot bring myself to answer it this side of P&L
