I currently have my bike for sale on E-Bay, which looks like it's going to be sold tonight, however i was told today that E-bay take 10% as a final value fee ,and if you choose Paypal you also have to pay them to withdraw money to your bank account, is this correct ?

Yes final value fee is 10% up to a maximum of £40. As for transferring money, you will pay a fee for using paypal to complete the sale but not transferring the money to your bank account.

Just to add I think paypal fee is 4% which means ebay makes 14% on every sale and thats not including listing fees! I think the fees now are way over the top and I am not likely to sell on there again.

Yes but as i'm the seller, does the buyer not pay this fee for completing the sale ?

Indeed buyer pays the price they bid plus postage, seller pays listing fee, final value fee and paypal fee if you use that to.

I've got a business account and it's like 3.8% I think....plus 20p or something like that.

I thought the fees were different on personal accounts though? A friend of mine was sure she'd never paid any fees when selling via ebay/paypal before? (quite likely complete rubbish though )

Yes, you are liable for Paypal fees as the seller, but if you want to avoid them just say in the listing that you'll accept only cash on collection.

There are ways around that. I always mention that I'd prefer cash on collection for items that need collecting and I've never had a listing pulled.

Added to that Paypal state you must provide them with a tracking number to protect yourself agaist a charge back, if I list anything as collection only I simple explane that I cant take paypal as the buyer is picking the item up and its not being posted, listing dont get pulled and all but 1 buyer understood.

So you have to use paypal now?

Along with the farce that you couldn't charge postage on certain items - which cost me a fortune last time around.

I don't think I shall bother with them again - bring back the good old days when you had three or four auction sites to choose from - are there any alternatives now?

I dont think you do have to use them.

My wife does a fair bit buying and selling via Ebay. We have been paid using postal orders, cash on pick up etc with no problems.
