A while ago I was selling a load of cooker hob that were new old stock.
I was putting a load of plain white cheapo ones on for £80bin and inadvertently put the very posh and branded stainless steel one on as a £80bin instead of the starting bid I was intending. It sold within a minute of me putting it on.

I told the buyer my mistake but also agreed to honour the sale. They were very grateful and gave me excellent feedback.

I also honoured selling a Sankey trailer body that started at 99p and and got one bid.

Both were my mistakes (though of different sorts) and so I took the loss.

I'd be interested to know what your rationale was for believing that someone would sell a bike on ebay for £0.99. Why would they? Just curious as I have never seen a £0.99 bike; there are much easier ways of giving away such an item.

As they say, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is!

I would look on it as someone who may really be short of cash and needs the money, so why some on here would advise pursuing the issue with ebay is a tad pathetic to say the least.

Sounds like a genuine mistake, I would have been disappointed but wouldn't have left negative feedback.

I "sold" a bike last week. Buyer ignored 2 invoices and went to ground ignoring all communication. I relisted it and then he left me negative feedback claiming he'd paid. Ebay say "tough" he can do so.

Yes, IIRC, something about it being an offer for sale, not a binding contract.

I've heard this too, but isn't there also an obligation on the seller to desribe goods accurately, including the price. If they get it wrong then I'm aware they are allowed to remove the items from sale, but immediately sticking it back up for sale at a different price is a bit naughty isn't it?

Is that not called correcting the mistake?

As the OP said, the seller meant to start an auction, not buy-it-now! It seems that as The Jogger says, they corrected their mistake. If they had reneged on an auction high bid then put it up buy-it-now then yes, naughty, but it was t'other way around.

Yes, and I think that's fair enough. It's only a problem if the seller deliberately prices something wrongly to raise interest in an item they have no intention of selling at the advertised price.

One of my gripes about Autotrader is that searching for cars at the bottom end of the price spectrum brings up countless adverts from professional sellers who are advertising the price of the car they are selling as the deposit price. If I'm looking for a car for under 1000GBP I don't wan't to see adverts for brand new cars misleadingly priced at 250GBP! :cursing:
