Due to an injury I'm still slowly recovering from, I'm looking for an e-bike to help with some inclines.
It's mainly going to be used for a mix of roads and tracks, but there's plenty of forest nearby and Scotland's right to roam makes most forests an opportunity to get out on two wheels! In that respect, a gravel bike would be grand I reckon.
There is also in the back of my mind, that in my quest to 'bag Munros', some approaches are really best accessed by bike, and the terrain is going to be rougher. But I wonder if I'm really overthinking this - if I'm not going to actually bike it to the summit, the terrain isn't normally that bad, I can research routes in advance which are a bit easier on a gravel/similar, and in any case, for the infrequency of this scenario, I could stick some extra phat tyres, take it easy, and embrace the lack of suspension?
Would appreciate some thoughts, particularly from anybody who's used a gravel bike for such approaches etc somewhere a bit more remote like Scotland (as a lot of the hills lack the sort of clearly-defined footpaths England/Wales have).
In terms of budget, it's my first e-bike and not sure if I'll be a convert, so up to £1.5k really. I'm about 5'7" so normally a medium. I'd look for a sort of 20 mile range I reckon, as I'd only really be wanting the power for the inclines. Not particularly bothered about panniers/accessories, just space for a couple of bottles as I do drink water like a camel. Open to refurbed.
Current research is looking at say..
Carrera Vulcan-E - cited range is 25-30 (max 40), recharges in 6 hours, front sus, non-removable battery around £1500.
Carrera Vengeance E 2.0 - range 20-25 (max 40), recharges in 6 hours, front sus, removable battery, much cheaper around £880.
Boardman HYB 8.9E - range 25-30 (max 60), recharges in just 3 hours, no sus, removable battery, around £1600.
I've only recently started searching so open to plenty of suggestions!
