Earthquake number 2

Has just hit at 07.54, tremendous power, quite unlike anything else I have felt before,. Yesterday I was just thinking about getting up when what I imagined was a huge underground gas explosion woke everyone up, this was just before 0700, this one about one hour later, some alarm clock!
We are on the outskirts of Oakham closest to the epicentre, about one mile away, this felt around the same in terms of strength and likely a p-wave rather than a s-wave.
You heard it here first!

That was no earthquake. That was the aftershock of a post curry evacuation at Chateau Vernon epicentre Meanwood.

There's currently a tsunami alert along the entire length of the Leeds Liverpool canal.

It was a c-wave by the way.

I'm on with making a raised pork pie. Just letting the hot water pastry cool a tad. It's large enough to address the Oakham deficit though it won't travel well

I remember this one from when I was at school in Church Stretton, about 10 miles from the epicentre, 5.1 magnitude and boy it scared the life out of me as a 13 year old!!

Yes, that one was scary. Really annoying that the national media ignored it at the time - I think they assumed it was a late April Fools joke.

No sign of those up here, but I have been woken up by 2 earthquakes in the UK in the past!

This one in 1984 occurred when I was a student in Manchester. I was used to heavy traffic passing my flat causing low-level rumbling, but the quake made my bed shake violently - scary stuff!

Another noticeable one took place after I had moved to Hebden Bridge. I had dozed off on my sofa and suddenly my head whacked against the nearby wall. I was alone in the house and thought "WTF was that"! I saw on the news the next morning that there had been a quake at that time.

Yes, that one was scary. Really annoying that the national medai ignored it at the time - I think they assumed it was a late April Fools joke.

It wasn't in London and nowhere else matters to the media!!

Didn't feel a thing here in South Lincs and we aren't that far away from you. Hope there was no damage locally

It might not be on the centre of the universe's news [London] but it will headline here on the East Midland News. No damage reported as yet but I guess underground gas pipes would be a worry right now. As an aside we will be in Sleaford tomorrow as dr_pink is competing in her first TT of the season.
