Back on topic and yes it's a very strong story line. Sadly they have 'clouded the water' with Ian wanting rid of Patrick to keep his own indiscretion unknown to Denise.
Patricks storyline is really sad, he's been a vibrant and well loved character on the square and his son is a Dr.. but I don't understand how he walked away just handing over money but then has been absent for many years I'd have expected more though.
He is not family to anyone on the square though has been like a dad to Denise so I truly hopse she does the right thing and cares for him, but it's not looking likely.
Such a shame if it ends in him going to a home, they did that with Dots husband - but he in real life had had a stroke so I guess the portrayal was more difficult, he did some episodes post stroke so they did try to address the subject sensitively I think.
